Top 10 Hot Holiday Dolls

There are so many great collector dolls each year that I find it very hard to only pick a few for my Hot Holiday Dolls list. All year, I look at dolls at shows, I talk to collectors online and in my shop, and watch Internet discussions, but It’s still hard to choose! As usual, I’ve come up with dolls by many popular doll companies, but there are also dolls from smaller companies–dolls that I’ve had top of my mind all year! Without further ado, here are my Hot Holiday Dolls 2007.

2. The American Ball Jointed Doll

Many collectors have flocked to the Ball Jointed fashion dolls that are usually designed, created and produced in Asia. Well-known American designer Paulette Goodreau has created her own line of ball jointed dolls, new this fall. She calls them the American BJDs, and they will give the Asian girls a run for their money. The initial four resin dolls, Rumor, Whisper, Innuendo and Secret are now retired, and their are less expensive vinyl versions also on the way! Suggested retail on the resin dolls is $299.99.

3. Captain Jack Sparrow by Tonner Dolls

There is no way around it…this is one HOT looking doll! A fantastic likeness of Johnny Depp playing everyone’s favorite pirate, Captain Jack Sparrow, this figure was released this fall by Tonner Doll Company. The costuming is detailed, and the sculpting spot-on. Limited to 5,000 dolls worldwide, Captain Jack has a suggested retail of $179.99.

5. Jazz Baby Barbie Featuring The Pivotal Body

The new Pivotal body Barbies were introduced with much fanfare at Toy Fair 2007…production samples were on display, but the dolls weren’t yet even named. I’m happy to report that the actual production dolls–now named the Jazz Babies–look just as good as the samples! They come in a beautiful open window box with the Barbies posed on chairs to show off their very poseable pivotal joints. The Cabaret Dancer Jazz Baby dolls are available in blonde, brunette or redhead versions and have a suggested retail of $49.99

7. Karito Kids

Karito Kids is my sole cross-over from this year’s top holiday children’s doll list. Although created for children’s play, the Karito Kids are top-quality collectible play dolls that collectors of children dolls will want to consider. The five dolls in the debut line come from China, Mexico, United States, Kenya and China. They come with themed books, and with each purchase made the doll’s new owner gets to make a donation (part of the purchase price) to the Kids Give charity of their choice. Manufacturer’s suggested retail is $99.99.

8. Helen Kish: Nursery Rhyme Collection

I’ve always loved the dolls created by Denver artist Helen Kish, and her Riley and friends dolls as various nursery rhyme characters has really struck a cord with collectors this year as well. Characters include Peter and Little Tink, Tiny Little Match Girl and Little Pippi. Suggested retail for these dolls varies but averages about $149.99

9. Harry Potter Dolls by Tonner Dolls

Its very rare that I’ll have the same dolls on the list two years in a row, but I’m just so crazy about these….as are collectors! And, with the seventh and last book in the series being released this summer, as well as the fifth movie, Harry Potter mania has never been hotter. And, these figures are by far the best available. New this year are the Dobby doll/figure (book spoiler alert!!) and with his heroic death, how can you not add him to your collection? Also, several of the figures including Ron at the Yule Ball have sold out, so if you are trying to complete a set, now is the time to do it. Plus, there are several very limited editions (Draco at the Yule Ball) new this year. Suggested retail prices vary.

10. Rudolph The Red Nosed Reindeer

Ok, its my list so I can indulge myself with my last pick. I grew up just loving the Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer holiday TV special. I looked forward to it every year (back when if you missed the one yearly showing of a show on TV, you couldn’t possibly see it again till the following year, since VHS, DVD, TIVO and all similar devices had yet to be invented. Yes, I’m that old, but I digress…). In any event, I still love that TV special, which I now own on DVD, and I’m tickled pink that Madame Alexander decided to issue a holiday doll set that commemorates that show, complete with plush, licensed Rudolph and a Maggie doll with an elf outfit straight from the show! Suggested retail is $79.99.
